East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Showa period, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful vintage wood tray resting on four legs with deep walls and rectangular basin that is lacquered then painted with maki-e, a shimmering gold leaf technique. An eagle sits in a pine tree observing the songbirds flying past. The gold is slightly raised from the surface, a style known as takamaki-e, a beautiful example of the form! Size: 23.375" L x 14.25" W x 4" H (59.4 cm x 36.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
