Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, San Juanito style, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An intriguing figure built from highly-burnished pottery depicting a seated anthropomorphic figure with sinuous arms resting atop bent legs, which are decorated in red slip, and painted chest details atop a cream-hued ground. The minimalist visage boasts impressed ovoid eyes, tall ears decorated with a trio of shells, a prominent aquiline nose, and pouty lips, all beneath a simple headband tied into a knot on the verso. A fine example of ancient shaft-tomb pottery! Size: 6" W x 9.125" H (15.2 cm x 23.2 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
