Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery sculpture of a female depicted seated with short legs spread before her. Her rectangular body displays a slightly convex belly, sharp shoulders, and prominent, pointed breasts, while her towering head features a stylized visage with elongated eyes, a protruding, curved nose, an open mouth, and a narrow chin, all crowned by a flared headdress. Lovely remains of red pigment adorn her body, forming a striated pattern across her waist and legs, likely intended as clothing, as well as a semicircle on her chest representing a pectoral. Size: 6.3" W x 10.8" H (16 cm x 27.4 cm)
