Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca-Etzatlan style, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 BCE. A hollow and highly-burnished pottery figure depicting a female resting on slender legs bent underneath thick thighs. She sits upright with a rigid posture with a bulging belly, conical breasts, rounded shoulders, and extended arms with delineated fingers. Her large head displays an expressive visage composed of coffee-bean-shaped eyes in low relief, a prominent nose, and a mouth full of teeth, all beneath a simple hair cap. While the lower body is adorned with red slip, her head boasts a smooth, creamy beige pigment. Size: 7.875" W x 9" H (20 cm x 22.9 cm).

Light earthen deposits, nice pigment craquelure, and great manganese deposits throughout. Old inventory label on base.
