Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant, mold-made pale aqua vessel with an applied, free blown, disc-shaped foot. The body tapers to the foot, with a swirling, diagonally ribbed form around it. A single trailed glass ring encircles the body at the midpoint, perhaps made to provide a convenient holding point. Faint rainbow iridescence is visible on many parts of the body, while the glass still retains its translucent character in other areas. Size: 2.75" W x 4.95" H (7 cm x 12.6 cm)

  • Condition: Intact, with very light encrustation on surface. Light areas of rainbow iridescence. Pontil is very rough on the bottom of the foot, which was blown and applied to the mold-made body of the vessel. This pontil scar or mark indicates that the vessel was free-blown.
