Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A remarkable zebu bull, hand-built from pottery and intricately painted with black striations over an orange-pink ground. Standing on all four attenuated legs, this burly beast features an elongated body, a massive hump, and a slender tail. Two immense horns arch from the animal's sizable head, which is fixed with a pair of thin ears and a cylindrical snout. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian aurochs. The humped bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from this civilization, as they were revered for their strength and virility.
