Description:

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A finely-detailed terracotta jar with a planar base, gradually-widening walls, slight recessed shoulders, a wide mouth, and a flared rim. The body is painted with a light-orange ground and detailed with dark-brown linear shapes, with secondary pigments in hues of bright red and pistachio-green. A long-horned cyclopean ibex as well as an amusing lion with a large mane and a sinuous tail adorn the sides, and both are separated by a set of vertical lines with brightly-colored interior spaces. The shoulders also display similar colors in a repeating semicircular motif, and the interior of the rim is painted in solid brown. A lovely vessel from some of the earliest styles of Indus Valley pottery! Size: 3.25" H (8.3 cm).
