South Asia, India, Rajasthan, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A collection of three silver pendants- including a pair of teeth with silver caps threaded on a silver snake chain. The two pendants are similar with a lanceolate shape cast from 64% and 90.9% silver, their leaf form symbolizes yoni, and the surfaces are decorated with repousse motifs and beaded edges. Pendants are known by many names including madaliya and patri, serving as protective amulets and adornments. The tooth pendant is made from a pair of large canine teeth - probably from a tiger- with silver caps and loops. The teeth enamels are a umber brown hue and quite sizable- a tiger or a similarly sized animal was used to make these. - Condition: Pendant caps on the tooth are slightly loose, but central silver fitting is tight. Some patina to the end caps and wear to tooth underneath. Enamel is brown with age with stable fissure / striations. Chain is intact. Other pendants have small indentations and softening to raised motifs. All pieces are polished with light patina remaining. Wearable!
