Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early 20th. A massive Vajrayana Buddhist painting on a stiff cotton canvas- the background is covered with white Sanskrit script, with four-headed dorjes in the corners, a large figure holding a bone, a nude woman, and a stupa. Interestingly the large figure is made up of painted buildings over the black background. The border framing the main figures consists of heads - some with eyes popping out of sockets - although somewhat gruesome, Vajrayana practitioners visualize the various organs and bones to realize that the world of the senses is not an independent entity. The world of the senses is instead created through multiple interacting causes. Size: 61" L x 49" W (154.9 cm x 124.5 cm)
