Description:

Peru, Inca, post conquest, ca. late 16th to 17th century CE. Decorated wooden kero - large mug used in drinking homebrewed Chicha beer. The recipe for such beer is a bit disgusting and I hear it is an acquired taste. Painted in shades of red, white, green, yellow and black showing a floral scene tropical birds and flora, warriors holding shields and staff on each side. Despite being created after the conquest by the Spanish, initially under Pizzaro, the Inca continued many of their artistic traditions using ancient motiffs. Size: 6" W x 7.125" H (15.2 cm x 18.1 cm)

Provenance: private Venice, Florida, USA collection
