Description:

Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Sican/ Lambayeque culture, ca. 800 CE. In a word - stunning! Matching pair of gold and silver ear flares or earspools highly decorated with scene of the Sican Decapitator God Nylamp. Holding what appears to be a long axe in his hands, crescent-shaped headdress, large earspools and sitting in the middle of a wave patter, series of large raised dots around outer edge. Size: 4.5" W (11.4 cm); gold quality: 55.5% to 58.7% (equivalent to 13K+ to 14K); weight: 55.7 grams

Nylamp was the mythical Pre-Inca god who supposedly founded the Sican culture around 800 CE upon the fall of the Moche. Because he supposedly came to the land form the sea, this depiction must surely be a representation of this mythological occurrence.

Gold has been tested using XRF technology and shows itself to range in purity from 55.5% to 58.7%. All other trace metals are consistent with gold from this region and time period.
