Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1400 to 1532 CE. An extensively decorated polychrome vessel, a classic form called an aryballos due to its similarities to Greek vessels of this shape. The vessel has a wide and conical base, a piriform body, two applied strap handles, a protruding lug, a tubular neck, and a flared rim. In addition, the vessel body is beautifully decorated with three columns featuring black botanical forms that are framed by red bands. A black band underscores this imagery; three black bands adorn the neck, and a red band embellishes the rim. A fine example of this traditional Inca vessel type that was used for transporting and/or storing liquids such as chicha, a fermented corn beer. Size: 5.5" W x 6.375" H (14 cm x 16.2 cm)

Lucite stand in photo not included.
