Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A wonderful figural fringe register comprised of tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of crimson, maroon, aqua, sage, wheat, cream, coffee, fuchsia, and black. The textile depicts the heads of twenty muneca (Spanish for "doll") heads that are attached to a colorful rectangular panel above twenty-two pairs of legs. Each muneca doll exhibits thick locks of sweeping brown hair, stylized bodies, and expressive countenances. Mounted against a museum-quality display fabric. Size (textile): 53" L x 6.125" W (134.6 cm x 15.6 cm); (display fabric): 66.5" L x 22" W (168.9 cm x 55.9 cm).

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired in the 1950s to 1960s
