Near East / Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 13th century CE. A large and attractive bronze cross with flaring arms that terminate in small circles. At the center and attached to the ends of each of these circles are decorative attachments - with the central one still in nice condition, and two of the others remaining. The ornate, pointed lower terminus was intended to be inserted or attached to a processional staff. Size: 14.1" W x 28.5" H (35.8 cm x 72.4 cm); 29.25" H (74.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-private Zakos collection, Switzerland, acquired in the 1980s
