Description:

Native American / First Nations, Northwest Coast United States, Alaska or Canada, Inupiaq / Inuit people, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A hand-carved scene rendered in soapstone depicting several connected igloos and a recumbent dog, a kayak on a sled, and a seal (presumably a fresh kill dragged back from a recent hunt). Wooden pegs support separate building elements on the igloos, and presumably human figures were once part of the scene. The underside is etched with "151315." Size: 11" L x 12" W x 4" H (27.9 cm x 30.5 cm x 10.2 cm)

  • Condition: Missing pieces / figures on top of the igloos and near the entrances that once attached via wood and bone pegs. Chips and abrasions to high pointed areas and flat surfaces. Stone bench on wood pegs is loose. Needs some light surface cleaning. Abrasions and scrapes to underside.
