Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A massive example of a cast-bronze spear blade of an elongated petaloid form with sharpened edges and a pointed tip. Both blade faces are intricately embellished with a thick midrib flanked by a pair of deep fullers that flare outwards towards the rounded butt, and in front of the petite tang are several incised striations that hook outwards. The weapon is enveloped in mottled layers of matte green and brown patina. Size: 18.4" L x 3.2" W (46.7 cm x 8.1 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired in the 1990's
