Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A fabulous and sizable example of a Megalodon tooth that has developed glossy shades of black, grey, and brown through the process of fossilization. The serrated edges of the tooth are worn down, though they would have been incredibly sharp while the animal was still alive; many of the individual serrations are still visible. The upper enamel portion displays dozens of vertical striations and the root has developed several stable fissures, both being additional results of fossilization. A wonderful example of one of the ancient seas' most ferocious hunters! Size (tooth): 5.42" L x 4.2" W (13.8 cm x 10.7 cm); (frame): 11.75" L x 9.55" W (29.8 cm x 24.3 cm)

Provenance: ex Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010
