Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Huari / Wari culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A charming mold-made polychrome figural vessel boasting a highly burnished surface, a rounded base, and a slightly corseted conical neck which flares at its opening. At the base of the neck is the figure’s rotund visage displaying a slender, protruding nose, appliqued circular eyes, and a minute slit-form mouth which presents slightly open. A wonderful geometric pattern adorns the obverse and verso of the figure, perhaps in depiction of elaborate Huari clothing, completed in black and red hues. A russet red band runs across the midsection of the vessel delineated by a pair of narrow black lines. A black band accents the top register of the neck. Size: 6" W x 7.5" H (15.2 cm x 19 cm)
