Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A lovely polychrome kero (also quero, qero), a tapering ceramic vessel designed to hold chicha. The vessel is painted with a brightly colored, repeated motif of a mythical being who stands, feet pointed outward as if dancing, arms extended, and wearing a wild headdress including a tumi at its center. Size: 3.55" W x 4.95" H (9 cm x 12.6 cm)

  • Condition: Intact, with a few chips, nicks, and scratches commensurate with age. Great preservation of motifs. Modern ink mark on underside, probably from an old collection label. Nice root marks, especially on interior.
