Description:

John Poleahla Jr. (Native American Hopi, b. 1970s), "Sitoto," ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A wooden kachina carving in the ultrarealistic and sculptural style, depicting a dancing Sitoto (also spelled Tsitoto or Citoto), the tobacco flower kachina. Captured midstride, the figure features a vibrantly striped face, a bird-like beak, parrot feathers, a Douglas fir ruff, and a rattle and fir branch are held in his hands. A fox pelt is visible on the verso, protruding from beneath the shawl. The underside of the base is signed by the artist. Size: 5" L x 4" W x 13" H (12.7 cm x 10.2 cm x 33 cm)
