Description:

Middle East, Holy Land, Sharon, ca. 1700 BCE. Ceramic Holy Land amphora shaped pitcher with conical bottom, narrow neck with bifurcated handle, and diminutive foot. The vessel is signed, dated, and location identified by Moshe Dayan, the legendary and quite unconventional Israeli military leader who served as the Defense Minister during the Six-Day War. Dayan was an amateur archaeologist who amassed an exceptional collection of Holy Land antiquities. His collection was featured in a landmark exhibition at the Israel Museum in 1986. Metal stand elevates piece nicely to show off gorgeous silhouette. 4.25"W x 7.50"H (10.80 W x 19.05 H cm) Provenance: Ex-Private Santa Barbara collection; Moshe Dayan private collection, acquired in mid-1970s.
