Description:

Near East, Holy Land, Iron Age, ca. 8th to 5th century BCE. An impressive pottery straining vessel exhibiting a bulbous body, a sloped shoulder, a narrow neck, and an annular, flared rim, all sitting upon 3 tab-shaped feet. Applied to the vessel's neck is a small bowl with 3 drill holes at the bottom of its shallow basin, allowing the jar to be used as a straining mechanism. A tubular strap handle arches from the dish's neck to the edge of its shoulder. Vessels like this example were used to strain wine or beer for consumption. Size: 4.75" W x 4.625" H (12.1 cm x 11.7 cm)
