Middle East, Holy Land, Judea, ca. 800 BCE. A large ceramic pitcher with full body, short neck and handle - most likely used to store wine or olive oil. The vessel is signed, dated, and location identified by Moshe Dayan, the legendary and quite unconventional Israeli military leader who served as the Defense Minister during the Six-Day War. Dayan was an amateur archaeologist who amassed an exceptional collection of Holy Land antiquities. His collection was featured in a landmark exhibition at the Israel Museum in 1986. 7.50"W x 10.00"H (19.05 W x 25.40 H cm) Provenance: Ex-Private Santa Barbara collection; Moshe Dayan private collection, acquired in mid-1970s.
