Near East, Holy Land region, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A tubular abstract idol in the form of the god Baal. He stands nude, with one arm raised, his legs positioned as if striding forward, his phallus prominent. Baal was a powerful ancient Near Eastern deity, a storm god associated with the fertility of the land, often depicted in an abstract but recognizably human way. This votive figure may have been carried by someone or placed into a domestic shrine. Size: 3.5" H (8.9 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.
