Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th century to 1st century BCE. A mold-made statue depicting a famous Classical story, that of Leda and the swan. Zeus assumed the form of a swan to seduce Leda, queen of Sparta, ultimately fathering Helen of Troy. The focus of this statue is Leda, depicted standing and wearing a beautiful himation, its folds and drapes carefully fashioned. One arm holds its corner open, while the other holds the swan, whose wings are spread wide as if in the act of landing beside her. Her face stares forward, her hair styled into an elaborate curled coiffure underneath a tall, cylindrical crown. She stands atop an integrated round pedestal. Size: 3.9" W x 8.95" H (9.9 cm x 22.7 cm)
