Description:

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 4th to 2nd century BCE. An astonishing pair of matching high quality 85% to 89% silver earrings with lion heads adorning the tips of the conical ornament. The earrings consist of a coiled, filigree hoop that terminates in a thin wire for threading through the wearer's ear, and the lion's mouth is pierced for inserting the wire tip, forming a simple clasp. The leonine visage is soft, the repousse details worn with age, but similar examples in museums help envision the original details. Size: 1.05" L x 0.7" Diameter x 0.3" W (2.7 cm x 1.8 cm x 0.8 cm); silver quality: 85% to 89%; weight: 3.3 grams
