Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A fine leaded-bronze bottle-stopper in the form of a standing satyr. This example highlights figural hallmarks of the Hellenistic period featuring swelling musculature while holding a dramatic pose, arching hair, and a jutted beard. In this depiction, the figure’s head faces downward, holding both hands at his waist. His hair is pulled back into a short ponytail, and he is dressed sparsely in a braided loincloth with exposed buttocks. The precise detailing of these features is nothing short of phenomenal! Size: 1.75" W x 3.4" H (4.4 cm x 8.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
