**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 4th to 2nd century BCE. A beautiful 91% gold (equivalent to over 22 karats) applique of rectangular form, displaying a repousse relief of a helmeted Greek soldier on horseback. Surrounded by a lovely dotted border, the ancient figure wields a circular shield and lengthy spear angled downwards, as he appears to fall from his horse. The faithful steed also seems to take a dive, as both its front legs flail about and its head ducks downwards. The image is surrounded by 5 drill holes, allowing it to have once been sewn onto the clothing of an Ancient Greek. Size: 1" L x 0.625" W (2.5 cm x 1.6 cm); Gold quality: 91% (equivalent to over 22 karats); Weight: 1.4 grams
