Description:

Harmon Percy Marble (1870-1945), two silver gelatin photographs depicting a Native American woman dancing, ca. 1917-1925 CE. A pair of silver gelatin photographs depicting the same Native American female wearing traditional dress and dancing with two wild feline heads on the ground before her. Each photo features the woman demonstrating specific hand motions of the dance, suggesting that the photographer had an ethnographic, anthropological intent. Marble was a prolific photographer who was especially interested in depicting Native American subjects. He took hundreds of photos of Navajo, Menominee, and Sioux peoples. While most of his photos are more candid, the well-thought out compositions seen in this pair are more similar to the style of his illustrious contemporary Edward Curtis. Size: each photo measures 9.75" L x 8" W (24.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
