Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 200 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone maskette of sizable form exhibiting a string-cut physiognomy as well as biconically-drilled suspension holes. The broad nose, slanted nasolabial folds, and deep eye sockets create a highly stylized countenance, the likes of which having been the source of inspiration for a host of modern-day artists. Size: 1.42" L x 3.18" W x 4.07" H (3.6 cm x 8.1 cm x 10.3 cm); 5.28" H (13.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private British Columbia, Canada collection, gifted from aunt in Tucson, Arizona, USA, acquired prior to 1994
