Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin or Recuay ca. 900 to 400 BCE. Carved compacted limestone snuff palette of the type used for either coca or lime inhalation. Having a tapered handle and rectangular grinding area with carved geometric borders and circular depression. Two zoomorphic finials having drilled suspension holes between their legs. The reverse is carved with two semiabstract human figures. Drilled suspension at the base of the handle. Remains of original pigment. Size: 2.5" W x 4.5" H (6.4 cm x 11.4 cm); 6.75" H (17.1 cm) on included custom stand.
