Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A finely preserved amulet of a hand that is carved from olive green stone with light green and dark brown inclusions. The conical amulet bears a tapered end with a biconically drilled suspension hole as well as three string-cut grooves denoting the fingers. The amulet exhibits an incredibly smooth surface texture that is pleasing to the touch. Size: 1.3" W x 2.1" H (3.3 cm x 5.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000
