Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala, ca. 300 BCE. A hand-carved and string-cut anthropomorphic figure from a pale grey stone, its extremely minimalistic form representing an early Mezcala variant, its visage with a strong ridge for a nose down the center of its face, pierced round eyes, and a wide smile - its rigid body with string-cut delineated arms and legs. Drilled at shoulders for suspension. Custom stand with an old Sotheby's label on the underside. Size: 3.125" H (7.9 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on stand.
