Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. An impressive anthropomorphic axe god, hand-carved from a sumptuous mottled green stone with black and pale orange inclusions. The figure has attenuated limbs, a broad body, and a characteristically large head. Features such has the neck, separated legs, arms, and facial features were all created using the string-cut technique so as to simplify the characteristics of the human physiognomy. Custom museum-quality stand included. Size: 3.625" H (9.2 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
