Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone figure of abstract form known as an axe god. Both the head and body are decorated with string-cut grooves that create the arms, fingers, toes, neckline, eyes, and mouth. Axe gods are believed to have originated from stone axe heads that were damaged or otherwise unusable. Size: 1.25" L x 1.7" W x 4.2" H (3.2 cm x 4.3 cm x 10.7 cm)
