Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 1000 to 500 BCE. An attractive necklace of wearable form constructed with dozens of petite Spondylus shell beads as well as several cylindrical greenstone pendants. The center pendant is tubular in form and may have perhaps been used as a snuff tube in ancient Peru. Size (necklace): 26.25" L (66.7 cm); (largest stone): 0.4" W x 1.1" H (1 cm x 2.8 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Shell beads and stone pendants are ancient; stringing is modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Great stone coloration. Previous inventory label on one of the larger stone pendants.
