Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A carved amulet of an axe god figure with an abstract form on the verso, hand-carved from a beautiful mottled greenstone of dark and light green hues with pink inclusions. The figural side presents with fused legs, a short torso, and an angular head with string-cut grooves to define a few details like the eyes, mouth, and legs. The verso features a more geometric profile with deep grooves that create raised rectangular shapes. The amulet is drilled laterally and vertically. An intriguing piece that may have been suspended and worn for protection or used in ritual. Size: .75" L x .75" W x 2.25" H (1.9 cm x 1.9 cm x 5.7 cm)
