Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A remarkable carved-greenstone seated figure known as a "stargazer". Highly stylized, the intriguing figure sits with knees drawn up to the chest and hands resting on shins. Skillfully string-cut striations delineate the lengthy fingers and elongated toes of the ancient figure's hands and feet. The petite head features a minimalistic visage of drilled eyes and an incised mouth held open as though in wonder as the figure gazes towards the sky. Size: 2" W x 4.125" H (5.1 cm x 10.5 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
