Central America, Guatemala, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A pair of charming hand-carved wooden slingshot handles in a skeletal and zoomorphic form. The stylized skeleton is standing with arms to his sides and the rounded skull is topped with a pair of prongs for the sling cord. The other is an adorable standing dog with black glass bead eyes, the neck supporting the prongs. Elaborately carved slingshots are popular in Guatemalan folk art. Size (dog): 6.5" L x 1.25" W x 1.75" H (16.5 cm x 3.2 cm x 4.4 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
