Hand carved and painted El Mexicano (the Mexican) mask from the "Baile de los Mexicanos" (Dance of the Mexicans) a popular dance in Guatemala in which the masqueraders mock their northern neighbors. Notice the stereotypical countenace of the visage with its exaggeratedly large nose, fanciful hairstyle, thick curled mustache, and dramatic eyebrows, not to mention the toothy grin and single inlaid eyeball. Perforations at inner brows for the masquerader to see through. Wired through sides for suspension with another small perforation through forehead for suspension.
