Description:

Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, ca. 4th century BCE. This is a beautiful, graceful example of a mold made pottery votive figure. He stands nude atop a square plinth and wears a himation (an mantle or wrap worn by Greek men and women) over his shoulders. There are remains of bright red paint on the front of his body. Figures like these would have been sold outside of temples by artisans who mass-produced them; they were taken into the temples and placed as votive offerings. Size: 1.4" W x 4.6" H (3.6 cm x 11.7 cm)
