Description:

Ancient Greece, late Hellenistic Period, ca. 2nd to 1st century BCE. A stunning mold-made pottery female, possibly a gorgon or Medusa, standing nude with a slender drape cascading over her right leg. The ancient figure holds both her hands up to balance a basket filled with fruits or vegetables atop her head. Her hourglass figure boasts wide hips, a narrow waist, and full bosom. With a small child hovering next to her right leg, she stares out at her viewer from huge, almond-shaped eyes under heavy lids and an arched brow. Her round visage displays characteristic gorgon features, such as a flat nose and full lips turned slightly downwards, all framed by a thick coiffure comprised of braids or serpents that falls just past her shoulders. Size: 3.125" W x 7" H (7.9 cm x 17.8 cm); 10.25" H (26 cm) on included custom stand.
