Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A charming statuette of a youth mounted atop a bull. Boasting a minimalist yet stylized form, the ancient figure straddles the long flank of the animal and grasps both of its large horns. The rider's mold-made head faces forwards presenting heavy-lidded eyes beneath arched brows, a petite nose, and bow lips. Alternatively, the bull exhibits a projecting snout, slender legs, and a raised tail. Size: 2.9" L x 1.8" W x 3.8" H (7.4 cm x 4.6 cm x 9.7 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California collection, USA, bestowed in 2006; ex-private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired before 2006
