Description:

Greece, Geometric period, ca. 8th century BCE. A cast bronze pendant in the form of an abstract bird. The bird's rounded, teardrop-shaped body dominates the pendant; its thin neck, hook-shaped head and beak, small, flat tail feathers, and single long, thin leg ending in a disc-shaped foot provide balance to the piece. A narrow loop of bronze wire rises from the center of the bird's back; two raised perforations are on the body, at the center of either side. These may once have had inlays of precious metal or stone. Size: 2.55" W x 2.15" H (6.5 cm x 5.5 cm); 3.85" H (9.8 cm) on included custom stand.
