Description:

Starts at $125 - An attractive Corinthian Alabastron from ancient Greece, circa 600 - 550 BCE. Measures approximately 3-1/4" tall x ~1 3/4"W. This graceful example is decorated with geometric lines as well as four long-tailed animals that appear to be running. The elongated globular body indicates that this is an Alabastron, used by women of the time to hold scented oils or perfumes. Similar examples with more rounded, squat, globular bodies are referred to as Aryballoi, which were used for the same purpose, but were for Greek men. Provenance: Former North Carolina, USA collection. Authenticity Guaranteed The starting price is the price at which the piece can sell.

  • Condition: Intact, save for restoration to a portion of the spout, and only very minimal touch-ups. Evidence of minor surface spalling and pigment loss in some areas, mostly at the bottom. Excellent mineral encrustation remains, evidence of the age and authenticity of this example.
