Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, Canosa, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A wonderful Canosan figure of Dionysos (also Dionysus, Roman Bacchus) - god of wine, theater, pleasure, and merriment - standing in a rather unsteady pose - suggesting that he has been enjoying the fruit of the vine - holding a wine sack in his hands - his body nude save the cloak draping over his shoulders. With his bearded visage, Dionysos looks down toward the large wine sack held in his hands. Size: 7.25" H (18.4 cm)
