Southern Europe, Greek Bronze Age/early Iron Age, ca. 11th to 8th century BCE. A graceful, beautifully preserved spectacle fibula made from a single piece of coiled bronze wire, one of the classic forms of antiquity, this example with a rare pale seafoam green and blue patina. The pin is still present on the back of the brooch. Spiral brooches seem to have been an almost Europe-wide fashion during this time period and are found in graves as markers of status from the Carpathians to western Europe. Size: 1.5" W x 3.7" H (3.8 cm x 9.4 cm); 4.55" H (11.6 cm) on included custom stand.
