Description:

Greece, Boeotia, Middle Geometric period, ca. 5th century BCE. A rare and extensively decorated epichysis boasting a unique, 3-footed form with a classical spool-shaped body, slender neck, beaked spout, and graceful loop handle. The hand-painted body features ornate decoration of tongue, ray, lotus flower, and palmette motifs as well as several horizontal bands. A pouring vessel like this would have been used for libations or offerings from the ancient Greeks to their gods which involved pouring liquid on the ground or the altar. Size: 5.3" Diameter x 9.3" H (13.5 cm x 23.6 cm)
