Description:

Greece, Attic, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A rare example of a blackware oil lamp with a large trapezoidal strap handle, a puck-shaped body on a low disc foot, and a short spout with an applied face of a woman - probably Medusa - just above the round opening at its tip. The surface is covered in a lustrous black glaze aside from the underside of the foot and a ring around the opening at the center, which are left unpainted, the buff red pottery exposed. Size: 4.45" W x 1.5" H (11.3 cm x 3.8 cm)
