Description:

Greece, Athens, Attic, ca. 4th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery cup of a squat form with a globular body, a tall, flared rim, and an applied strap handle atop a concave circular foot. The vessel is enveloped in a lustrous black glaze save for a small central spot beneath the foot, and areas of faint silvery iridescence complement the dark-hued vessel. Size: 3" W x 2.25" H (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm).

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to large area of rim and upper shoulder, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor nicks to rim, handle, body, and base, with light fading to original glaze coloration. Light earthen deposits and faint silvery iridescence throughout.
